Life Changes

As I am sure most of you know, Jeremy has not had a consistently paying job since the beginning of March. The first few months were fine because we had our tax return to live on. By the end of April that had run out and we began to live on faith.

I am not here to tell you how hard it has been, because it really has not. Our every want has not been provided for and we have had rethink the way we live in many areas, but God always provides.

Today I just wanted to tell you about some of our eating changes. We have had to really think about how and what we eat. I have been very proud of us. We have dumped all of the junk from our diets unless I can make it from scratch such as brownies. Some of those things we still have occasionally just because I can make them from scratch.

I have made spaghetti sauce, tortillas, hummus, bread, and the before mentioned brownies from scratch. It has taken some getting use to by our children. They are not always sure what to think of mom making things that do not come from a can or a jar.

I have also started using dried beans instead of canned. This has definitely been a new experience for me.

The biggest challenge in cooking from scratch comes from having to plan so much further ahead. You just cannot grab something out of the cupboard and dump it into a pan. It has been a great challenge. I love seeing what new things I can do with what I have in the cupboard.

God is so good to draw us out of our comfort zones even in such basic areas as what we eat. I would challenge you to try something new today. It does not have to be something so foreign you mind rejects it right from the start. Maybe it could be something as simple as making spaghetti sauce from scratch. It will taste different, but from my perspective it is so much better.

  1. It is a lot more work, but so worth it! Go girl. :)
It's also a LOT yummier, in my opinion. Homemade spaghetti sauce that has simmered with fresh herbs all day just can't be beat.
